As a manufacturer-independent supplier of vehicle care and detailing products, we consistently adapt to the demands and wishes of our customers – and have been doing so for many years with great trust on both sides.
A clear trend in recent years: The demand for high-performance single-layer systems that provide reliable paint protection with just one application has significantly increased. While we are aware that two-layer systems like Gtechniq Crystal Serum combined with EXOv5 still deliver absolute peak values, not every user wants to undertake this extra effort – especially in the semi-professional or private sector.
In our intensive search for high-performance coatings with simple application, two new brands stood out to us: A young company from Scandinavia and a manufacturer from Asia impressed us in months of practical tests with their consistently strong performance – even under challenging conditions.
As all legal and safety requirements could also be fulfilled in close cooperation with the manufacturers, nothing stood in the way of a listing in our assortment.
Our Impression of Graphene in Coatings – Realistic Benefits and Scientific Classification
The most plausible and understandable advantage of Graphene in coatings for us lies in its role as a structure-stabilizing solid. Due to its atomic thinness and mechanical strength, graphene as a particle additive can help the coating embed more finely and evenly into the microstructure of the painted surface. This can promote optimized wetting and thus a more homogeneous finish – an effect also reported for other solids like nanodiamonds or silicon carbide.
Graphene acts at the molecular level as a reinforcer of surface structure, stabilizing the formulation through its high planarity and potentially improving anchoring to the substrate surface. This could lead to a higher mechanical load-bearing capacity of the cured layer, especially under mechanical stress or temperature fluctuations.
Theoretically conceivable advantages like self-healing effects, reduced heat absorption to avoid water spots, or a significantly increased hydrophobicity seem – at least based on currently available data – somewhat elusive. These properties are generally more dependent on the formulation of the binder, the carrier system, and the surface energy behavior of the finished layer than on the additive itself. Furthermore, many of these effects are already present in modern ceramic coatings – even without graphene.
Another realistic advantage we observed in our tests concerns the easier processing of certain graphene formulations. Improved viscosity and controlled drying behavior could, with the right composition, contribute to the product being easier to apply and polish – a real added value for both professional and private users.
Overall, graphene remains a fascinating component of modern coating technologies – with potential benefits but also a certain level of marketing projection. For us, what counts in the end is the combined effect of all components – and this has convinced with the products we offer in our range.
