Difference Between Sealants and Coatings
The term "sealant" is often used differently in car care, especially when it comes to "sealants" and "coatings." Both terms describe products that create a protective layer on the wrap, but they differ in application and durability. Sealants are easier to apply and are therefore ideal for beginners. Products like C2v3 or Sapphire offer excellent protection without the need for extensive experience or special tools. They reliably protect against everyday dirt, water spots, and UV rays. Coatings, on the other hand, are more durable protective solutions that form a deeper and more resilient protective layer on the surface. However, they require more precision in application and are therefore more suited for experienced users. Anyone looking for long-term protection for their wrap should consider high-quality coatings that provide optimal protection even under the most demanding conditions.
Proper Preparation: How to Seal or Coat the Wrap
For the sealant or coating to achieve its maximum protective effect, thorough preparation of the wrap surface is essential. First, the wrap must be thoroughly cleaned to remove dirt, dust, and residues. Special cleaning agents for wraps are ideal here, as they do not attack the sensitive structure and appearance of the surface. After cleaning, the wrap is degreased with an IPA mixture (Isopropanol Alcohol) up to 50% to remove oil and grease residues that could impair the adhesion of the sealant. Only after this preparation is the sealant or coating applied. It is essential to apply the products evenly and precisely to achieve a perfect result. Use clean applicators and follow the manufacturer's instructions.
With the right preparation and the appropriate product, you can ensure that your wrap is optimally protected and its brilliant appearance – whether matte, glossy, or satin – is maintained for a long time. For more information and helpful tips, we recommend our detailed Know-How Article.
